HELP CUT TOXIC PLASTIC PACKAGING IN NY!
Join us on Monday, May 11, 2026 at the NY State Capitol in Albany to urge your state legislators to put people over plastic by passing the Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act. This critical bill will address the crisis of planet-warming, ocean-polluting, landfill-clogging, human health-harming single-use plastics by reducing them at the source while saving taxpayers money and providing support for recycling and reuse efforts. Fill out the form on the right to RSVP now. -->
What can you expect on May 11?
10:00 AM – Kickoff & Orientation
We’ll gather in Conference Room 2 of the Concourse in Empire State Plaza for coffee, muffins, and an orientation. You’ll hear from organizers and legislative champions, meet your team leader, and get ready for the day.
12:00 PM – Rally at West Capitol Park
We’ll head outside for a rousing rally to show lawmakers that New Yorkers demand bold action on plastic pollution. We are honored to have Chris Alexander, executive director of NAACP-New York State, and our fearless bill sponsors, Assemblywoman Deborah Glick and Senator Pete Harckham speak.
12:30 PM - Lunch
We’ll provide a tasty, healthy lunch to keep you fueled up for the afternoon’s meetings
Afternoon – Legislative Meetings
You’ll meet directly with your state assemblymembers and senators or their top staff to urge them to support PRRIA, call for a vote ASAP, and pass the bill before the legislative session adjourns in early June.
If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry! You’ll be part of a team with an experienced leader, and we’ll provide talking points and written materials in advance.
After you RSVP, you’ll receive an invitation to a virtual briefing on Monday, April 27 at 6:00 PM, where we’ll review the bill, go over the schedule, and share tips for effective advocacy.

Why is this bill so important?
- Plastic packaging is made from fossil fuels and chemicals.
- The U.S. is the world's largest plastic polluter.
- Plastic is responsible for double the emissions as the global aviation industry.
- Just 5-6% of plastic is recycled in the U.S.
- Plastic never biodegrades; it just breaks down into smaller microplastics. Microplastics have been found in human blood, hearts, lungs, livers, placentas, brains, testes, and breastmilk.
- The Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act reduces plastic at the source and makes packaging truly recyclable and less toxic.
- Massive grassroots advocacy is the firewall against Big Plastic's influence. The American Chemistry Council, fossil fuel companies, and consumer brands are in Albany opposing this bill and talking to legislators - we need YOU to add your voice to pass this critical bill to protect our climate, health, environment, and environmental justice communities.
