Health care spending is increasing rapidly in the U.S., but patient outcomes are not improving. In many cases, they are even deteriorating. The COVID-19 pandemic has only strained our health systems further and spotlighted structural drivers of inequity that have been ignored for decades.

Simply spending more on health care to achieve better and more equitable outcomes is clearly not the answer. This leaves us with a fundamental question: how do we change our health care structures to improve healthcare quality and equity? How do we reward providers for doing better, not just doing more?

Value-based care (VBC) offers an approach that disrupts the traditional payment model of prioritizing quantity over quality. VBC introduces rewarding providers for the quality of outcomes achieved rather than the quantity of services provided.

Join FDIP as we explore this promising new innovation to transform health care. We’ll hear from experts ranging from academic, administrative, and clinical perspectives to help us better understand VBC – what it is, what it has accomplished, and where it may be heading in the future.
