—
This August 15th marks the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, when the Korean masses liberated themselves from Japanese colonial rule. On this day, we remember the millions who struggled against incredible odds to forge their own destinies and resisted imperialism.
Yet, Korea remains divided and occupied by the US. The US treats the Korean Peninsula like a military base—conducting military drills and testing their weapons on a regular basis. Around August 15, the US and South Korea will conduct their largest series of war games in Korea, or the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise.
As organizers and activists here in the empire, we know that US imperialism in Korea does not serve the interests of Korean people nor the majority of Americans. Our taxpayer dollars are being used to provoke aggression and threaten peace in Korea instead of meeting our everyday needs. We must build political power to end austerity at home and endless wars abroad.
Our rally will coincide with large protests in South Korea and is crucial for international solidarity. So join us on Friday, April 15, at 6 pm at Herald Square to demand the US out of Korea.
