This Tax Day, Granite Staters are coming together at the State House to speak out against a rigged economy that’s driving up the cost of our lives. Housing. Child care. Health care. Groceries. Property taxes. People are getting squeezed from every direction.
At the same time, billions of our tax dollars are being spent on another war overseas—and here at home, conservative leaders are holding a sham hearing to distract from their new push for tax breaks for big corporations.
This proposal isn’t serious policymaking, it’s a distraction from a bigger issue: years of tax cuts by conservative lawmakers have reduced the state’s ability to raise enough revenue to fund essential services, shifting more of the cost onto property taxes and rents.
Public hearings are one of the few opportunities to speak directly with legislators about the issues that impact our communities. Special interests interests will be there, and it’s important that everyday residents show up and are heard too.
