On Thursday, April 23, 2026, 6:30-8 pm, join OUR NEWARK FUTURES at the Newark Public Library (5 Washington St., 4th floor Auditorium) for a talk and dinner with Chantal Fischzang, Gisela Ochoa, and Stephanie Rodríguez on A Feeling of Itself.
Presented at Project for Empty Space, through a collaboration with Lives in Translation (LiT), and the Design Consortium at Rutgers University-Newark, the A Feeling of Itself explores what it means to live between languages through bilingual interviews, photography, typography, and data visualization. Rooted in the concept of #Arraigo—a sense of belonging shaped through one’s roots—the project highlights translation as a powerful form of cultural connection and affirms multilingualism as a source of power, dignity, and collective memory.
The exhibition unfolds across Newark from March through June 2026, including a window installation at 19 Williams Street, a full exhibition on view March 24–June 1 at Project for Empty Space (800 Broad Street), and a culminating site-specific lighting installation at Edison Place.
Join us for a conversation with the designers and researchers behind this layered, multi-site exhibition, drawing from multilingual conversations across the region, and exploring how linguistic data is transformed into immersive public artworks.
