Join in community to discuss how we are fighting to keep public schools open, and how new taxes impact our public services and our wallets. Tap into the fight to protect working families!✊💜
There are currently 18 public schools slated to be closed – many of which are in low-income neighborhoods. The School District’s plan is incomplete and does not put community first. At the same time, new proposed tax policies claim to support school funding, yet put the cost on working Philadelphians. All this comes just a year after steep tax cuts for big corporations and added tax burdens to our mom and pop shops. We are fighting to keep every school open! We need to invest in our communities and make sure we do that by having the richest pay their fair share.
We need our city leadership to step up and protect Philadelphians. At this event, we will talk about what our city needs to do to keep our schools open and our public services fully funded. We demand:
- NO school closures! Keep our schools open
- Real community engagement in the School District plan
- Address issues specific to Northeast Philly schools: overcrowding, building conditions, and resources for immigrants
- Fund our schools and public services by taxing the rich! Relieve working people and small businesses from hefty tax burdens
Our communities are resilient and, with the right amount of protection and investment, will be healthy and thriving. We can't wait to be together, share a meal, and build relationships to better fight for ourselves and our neighbors.
Join the 215 People’s Alliance, Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance, People’s Tech Project, Stand Up for Philly Schools Coalition, and the Alliance for a Just Philadelphia on April 25th!
