Act for the Amazon!
Start: Thursday, September 05, 2019• 3:00 PM
We are praying for the victims of Hurricane Dorian and hope for the best as this storm continues to move through the Atlantic. The coast is officially clear in Miami, and there is no time like now to come together and ACT.
We gather in outrage, in grief and in despair outside the of BlackRock Investments tomorrow, 3:00PM
The Amazon is literally on fire (going up in smoke?) and every inch that continues to burn takes us further away from any hope of sustaining life on this earth. The Amazon is fundamental to the life support systems of this planet and for us as humans.
We cannot sit in silence while life on Earth is being destroyed.
Companies like BlackRock, the world's largest investment firm, which announced plans to expand its operations in Brazil after Bolsonaro was elected, is a key financier of the agribusiness giants implicated in deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
Many of the oil, mining, and agribusiness operations in which BlackRock allegedly invests contribute to the violation of indigenous rights and furthers the expansion of development into the Amazon.
This is not just the future of Brazil at stake - it’s all of our future.
Bring yourselves, your drums, your voices. Let's stand in solidarity with all those who suffer because of these fires. The indigenous peoples, their land, their homes, their way of life are being destroyed by this.
It is time to act. Join us in our peaceful demonstration ?

-----
Unprecedented fires are ravaging the Amazon - more than 74,000 fires in this year alone, an 84% increase over last year. This is an international tragedy and a dangerous contribution to climate chaos.
Indigenous earth defenders have put out an urgent call for international solidarity- Amazon Watch, the National Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB), and Extinction Rebellion are mobilizing a Global Day of Action for the Amazon on September 5, 2019. Focus should not only be directed at Brazilian embassies or consulates, but also at the offices of the corporations profiting from Amazon destruction.
Protecting forests and upholding the rights of Indigenous people is one of the most effective defenses we have against climate breakdown. This is where we draw the line. We’ve had enough of companies promising they care about the environment while continuing to drive forest destruction. They need to act now - while there are still forests left to protect.
