Opening Remarks

  • Jesse Kanson-Benanav, Executive Director of Abundant Housing MA, welcome and brief review of Boston context of the Boston housing crisis

Panel 1 — Leaders from neighborhood level pro-housing groups in and around Boston

These organizations are all members of AHMA at differing points of maturity. Each panelist will introduce their organization profiles (membership/founding/structure), highlight recent accomplishments, biggest challenges, etc.

Panel 2 — Subject matter experts discuss current Boston-specific context of how things get built

  • Raul Duverge, former BPDA Senior Project Manager, currently VP of Development at Rise Construction Management, to review current players in getting something permitted in Boston (ZBA, BPDA, Mayor’s Office of Housing, etc.), what constitutes Master Planning in Boston, and the Article 80 process, including IAGs
  • Chanda Smart, Founder & CEO of Onyx Group, to speak in broad strokes about each stage of development: Prospecting, Pre-Construction, Construction, Post-Construction and common timelines from identified project to shovels in ground
  • Becca Schofield, formerly Project Manager for Homeowners Rehab Inc., currently a Developer with Pennrose, to speak in short form regarding how affordable income-restricted housing gets funded and the different kinds of funding available
