End: Wednesday, August 20, 202509:00 PM

Join us for the third session of the Tech/AI Justice Reading Group on August 20th at 7 pm at the DSA-NYC Office in the Lower East Side, 14 Jefferson St, NY. Zoom link for the Hybrid option will be sent to those who RSVP. The theme of this session will be "AI's Impact on the Creative Industry," featuring guest speakers Molly Crabapple and Edward Ongweso Jr.

From the DSA-supported Hollywood's writers' strike, to the illustrators organizing against the image-generators built on their stolen art, creative workers are fighting back against a tech-industry hellbent on using AI to deskill, disempower and replace them. This teach-in, led by Molly Crabapple and Edward Ongweso Jr. will discuss about the hows and whys of generative AI's devastating impact on workers, and on human flourishing more generally. We'll also discuss strategies for fighting back against the Slop Beast.

The NYC-DSA Tech Action Working Group has re-launched this political education series where we explore Tech and AI from a socialist perspective through collective study and discussion. Our goal is to bridge knowledge gaps, foster interdisciplinary dialogue, and promote equitable political education on AI technologies, empowering us to make informed decisions about the future of AI and technology in society.

The series alternates between discussion-based sessions focused on theoretical foundations and more teach-in style sessions centered on applied policy issues or featuring guest speakers.
