Week 2
Our second session contains two readings discussing the imperialist American coup of Salvador Allende’s government in Chile: a chapter from The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein and a chapter from The Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins. Klein focuses on the role neoliberal economics played in the coup. Bevins links the coup to anti-communist repression in Indonesia and Brazil. The coup against Allende and the installation of Pinochet is a key moment in modern history, and understanding its history is key to understanding modern day imperialism.
Syllabus and Zoom links will be sent to participants who RSVP.
