This is all-staff mandatory anti-racism training for this 4-hour anti-racism workshop. This workshop is being delivered by Royston John and NCBI, who Citizens UK have worked with in the past.
There are other dates available to book for this repeated session, from September onward.
This training is to provide us all with the opportunity to discuss anti-racism within a framework and facilitated session and create that space to learn, ask questions and reflect on how we can all move forward together into putting anti-racism into practice across the organisation and in each of our roles.

What to expect?

The workshop takes participants through a tried and tested framework, seeking to share understanding across differences, develop emotional intelligence and embody anti-racism as an attitude and practice in work and life.

A half-day activity workshop (4 hours) includes:

  • Identity and difference - celebrate some similarities and difference
  • People as leaders; anti-racist; allyship modelling, conversations and challenges
  • Recognising the misinformation we learn about various groups;
  • Modelling tools for dealing effectively with conflict, oppressive comments and behaviours.
  • Next steps as an organisation.
Main outcome:

Support the organisation to help make a difference and equip staff with greater awareness and skill with common issues of racism, microaggressions and bias.

In preparation and attending the workshop

We ask that everyone who joins us is able to stay for the entire session - because the learning is emotionally engaging and cumulative - structured to build on each section, we don't admit latecomers. This work is also sometimes difficult and emotional and aims to be transformative, and another reason why we ask you to stay for the entire session. If you cannot stay, please let us know in advance.

A reminder that this training will be online, and we have a few rules that we ask all participants to follow for full engagement and everyone’s comfort in this space:

  1. Do arrive 10 minutes before the advertised start time.
  2. Zoom in from a space where you can speak freely/confidentially.
  3. Leave your camera on, have good room lighting and position yourself so that we can clearly see and hear you.
  4. Do have a pen and paper handy for writing some action points.
  5. Use a laptop for the workshop as smart phones will only show the speaking participant; therefore, hand gestures or acknowledgements will be/are missed.
  6. Please sit no more than a maximum of 1m (39 inches) from your laptop camera if you are able to
  7. Visibility and engagement is important so please choose “gallery” view where you can see all participants on this workshop.
  8. Do have a red cloth or object with you for the session
  9. Let us know in advance of specific accessibility and communication needs, so that we can do our best to accommodate you.
Timings

The session runs for 4 hours and will have breaks, and if scheduled over lunchtime the session will stop for a 30-minute break.

About the training provider

National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) training have nearly 4 decades experience of working with different communities and identity groups providing support to build relationships, create harmony and dissipate conflicts. Throughout the UK, our work involving the teaching of leadership and equality skills equips staff to make a difference to themselves, the work environment and wider society. The core of NCBI work is working with differences.

We share lived experiences that invite participants into an irrefutable understanding of oppression, differences, privileges, power, race, class and culture.

In addition, our work embraces differences and experiences through age (younger and older), gender, sexuality and other long forgotten or minimised differences such as size oppression, micro-aggressions etc.

In the last 20 years NCBI Training has worked with over 20,000 people across the UK.

We have to date delivered over 600+ workshops across all sectors.

Our work utilises a framework of emotional intelligence. As a result, our formula and approach would fulfil the satisfaction of all individuals and groups being heard and thus create the opportunity for sustainable change.

In our work we equip people to get beyond silence without compromising self, relationships or status.

This includes:

  • ending prejudice and discrimination through raised awareness and skills training
  • increase personal self-esteem, awareness and confidence
  • develop integrated organisation leadership
  • teach the principles of positive relationships as a productivity value
  • raising greater awareness of bias and how to minimise it

If you're interested in attending but can't make this date, please email us at staffdevelopment@citizensuk.org and we'll do our best to find an alternative date.
