AFSCME is bringing together behavioral health workers from union and non-union jobs across Minnesota to discuss the challenges we face and find ways to raise standards. This Summit has been approved by the Minnesota Board of Psychology & the Minnesota Board of Social Work for 6 CEUs, Board of Nursing 6 CEUs offered. CEUs are Pending Application with the Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy.


Timetable of Instruction & Activities:

  • Behavioral Health; Sharing the National Conversation - Information collected from frontline workers at the AFSCME Convention in Las Vegas, 2018, and incorporating the results from a survey of Behavioral Health workers across MN . Identifying common themes, barriers to access, provider stability, etc. 60 minutes
  • Mental Health Initiative and Grant on the Iron Range - Ursula Whiteside & Tom Whiteside will present & do a Q & A on the Thrive Range grant project for 60 minutes. Thrive Range is related to Suicide Prevention and access to quality care.
  • Panel of Behavioral Health Workers - This panel will consist of five (5) frontline workers across behavioral health (counselors, social workers, paraprofessionals, direct service providers, etc.) We plan to discuss self-care related to advocating for themselves while also caring deeply about the individuals these folks serve. Also, including the various ways providers cross over into other provider networks. 1.5 hours
  • Discussing What is Possible & Break Out Sessions - Ways to Build Power and Raise Standards; Legislative priorities to help consumers of care & professionals; addressing burnout & self-care, as well as stability of employment within the field; identifying next steps to take our findings to the next level. 2.5 total hours

$25 Travel Stipend for the first 50 AFSCME Council 65 Members or Behavioral Health Workers from Non-Union Worksites who register through the AFSCME Council 65 website & attend one of the days of training.
