Bird walk social
Start: Sunday, April 27, 2025•10:00 AM
End: Sunday, April 27, 2025•12:00 PM
Some people might say socialists need to touch some grass, so here we are! Join us for a bird walking social outing at one of the DC suburbs' finest parks, Lake Artemesia in Berwyn Heights. Take a break from doomscrolling and enjoy a beautiful walk, learn to identify some new birds and plants, learn some local history, and build community with comrades in the area. The event will be led by Olivia D., co-chair of the MoCo branch and an amateur birder and local historian.
This event is being co-hosted by the Montgomery County and Prince George's County branches, but all are welcome to join no matter where you live!
We will be meeting at the parking lot of the Lake and walk in together. The parking lot is at the intersection of Berwyn Road and 55th Avenue in Berwyn Heights. Pin for the parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/UGN9JNyyxTm2pGtP8. A note that the parking lot does tend to fill up quickly on weekends, but street parking is usually available along Ballew Ave. The parking lot is a 1.4 mile walking distance from the College Park Metro, and is also connected to the Northeast Branch Trail, Paint Branch Trail, and Indian Creek Trail for anyone biking over.
The walking trail at the lake is a 1.35 mile paved hiker-biker trail. There is not an open bathroom at the park, but there are port-a-potties and there are bathrooms located at nearby businesses on Baltimore Ave / Route 1.
Recommended things to bring: sunscreen, water, a snack. If you have them, bring binoculars and a field guide to birds!
