Black AF Study Group: Slavery & Capitalism

Start: Tuesday, August 19, 202506:00 PM

End: Tuesday, August 19, 202507:30 PM

Join us for a dynamic and unapologetic deep dive into the roots and impact of African enslavement—told through the lens of African people themselves. This experience will trace the development of slavery in the Western Hemisphere, with a focus on the United States, while centering Africa’s resistance and the enduring struggle for freedom, self-determination, and the dismantling of colonial slave economies.

Grounded in historical truth and radical analysis, BAF will explore the political economy of slavery, the internal structures that upheld it, and the international systems of capitalism and colonialism that continue to shape our world today. We’ll uplift the stories of rebellion and resilience from Africa to the Americas, highlighting the power of the African working class and the unrelenting fight for liberation.

Participants will:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of the global forces that fueled European development and African destabilization.

  • Examine the international slave trade’s direct ties to capitalism and colonialism.

  • Explore historical patterns of resistance, unity, and transformation across the African diaspora.

  • Connect past struggles to present-day conditions and movements for Black liberation.

  • Learn historical tools of analysis to better interpret our past and shape our collective future.

Whether you’re a student, organizer, educator, or truth-seeker, BAF is a call to study, struggle, and reclaim our history with clarity and power.
