Black August is a time to study, to train and learn. Black August is a reminder of the importance of being a good student of the movement by taking the time to learn about the work that has been done before your time. This is critical for the advancement of future generations, for Justice and Equity.

BLACK AUGUST DIRECT ACTION TO SUPPORT THE FREEDOM OF KRYSTAL CLARK

Through our court support and participatory defense program we have been able to advocate for Krystal Clark’s freedom. The spirit of Black August is rooted in resistance and in particular prison abolition, it is only fitting that our direct action supports the freedom of incarcerated people, such as Krystal Clark. We ask that you join in 2 or more of the following actions as your act of resistance this Black August.

1. Please sign the petition to the governor of Michigan in support of Krystal Clark: https://www.change.org/HoldMDOCAccountable.

2. Please share this Black August Action with 5 other people. We want to spread the word about Krystal Clark: https://linktr.ee/admin/links.

3. Take a picture holding a sign that reads, “ Free Krystal Clark”. Email the photo along with your name, city and state to realejusticenetwork@gmail.com. The photo will be used in a creative project to advocate for Krystal’s freedom. We will notify each participant once we have posted the final version.

4. Make a short video, (5-10 secs). Record yourself saying, “ Free Krystal Clark”. Email the video along with your name, city and state to realejusticenetwork@gmail.com. The video will be used in a creative project to advocate for Krystal’s freedom. We will notify each participant once we have posted the final version.

5. Make a short video, (20-30 secs). Please respond to the following: Why is prison abolition a reproductive justice issue? Please end your recording by saying some version of, “ Free Krystal Clark”. Such as, We must free Krystal Clark or It is our duty to free Krystal Clark. Please email the video along with your name, city and state to realejusticenetwork@gmail.com. The video will be used in a creative project to advocate for Krystal’s freedom. We will notify each participant once we have posted the final version.
