As of June 26, 2026, the Supreme Court decided to act as a proxy for this administration’s harmful and racist immigration agenda with two of its rulings. Ruling in a 6-3 vote, Mullin, Secretary of Homeland Security V Al Otro, et al) of the Supreme Court decided that the Trump administration can revive a previously rescinded immigration policy, Metering, and legally turn back asylum seekers who are attempting to reach a port of entry before they hit U.S. soil. In another 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court also determined - (Mullin V Doe) that the Trump administration can cut off temporary legal protections (TPS) for thousands of Haitians and Syrians.

These decisions will have a devastating impact on immigrants, particularly Haitian immigrants, in this country. While this news is infuriating and heartbreaking to hear, it is also confirmation that our work to fight back does not stop. We know that migration is a human right and one that should be equally protected. Therefore, we press on in spite of these decisions!

This past April, the House passed a discharge petition ( 224-204) led by Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) to extend TPS for Haitians. It is now up to the Senate, led by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), to carry it through. We are taking action in support of S 4814 A bill to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for temporary protected status. the companion legislation. Our taking action is built on an unbroken history of relationship and collaboration between stolen Africans who ended up in Haiti and those who landed in the southern U.S.

Natural alliance - one struggle many fronts - anti Black racism in the US and in Haiti is the same root. This decision increases the risk of being snatched by ICE for all Black people.

Defense of democracy calls for us to build a united front against white christian nationalism by tying together the defense of voting rights and defense of Black migrants.
