Border Surveillance: From Gaza to the Rio Grande
Start: Sunday, May 25, 2025•01:30 PM
End: Sunday, May 25, 2025•05:30 PM
The logic of empire extends all the way from Gaza to the Rio Grande. Join DSA for a thoughtful excursion, as we discuss the past and present of border surveillance, and how it relates to the methods and policies of colonization and empire.
On May 25th, PSAI will lead a group to San Francisco’s historic immigration detention center on Angel Island where the Electronic Frontier Foundation is currently holding its exhibition Border Surveillance: Places, People and Technology.
We will meet at the Ferry Building at 1:30 PM to catch the 1:55 PM shuttle to Angel Island. We will then view the exhibition at the Angel Island Immigration Museum and discuss the connections between border surveillance practices and technology in the United States and decades of occupation, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing in Palestine. Our event will conclude at the Ferry Building at 5:30 PM.
Note: The cost of a roundtrip on the ferry is $15 per person.
