We've all noticed it. Cars are getting bigger, wider, heavier and taller. This 'carspreading' effect is making our streets more congested, more polluted and more dangerous, with children especially at risk.
Cities are taking action against carspreading. Last year, Cardiff City Council voted to raise parking charges for the heaviest cars, to ensure those who own and drive them pay their fair share for the costs.
And Bristol can do the same! Bristol Against Carspreading is a campaign group to support the council to introduce policies against big cars and SUVs. We will engage with councillors, demonstrate public support for policies, and creatively campaign for change.
This launch event will explore the issues of carspreading and why we need action. We will look at what Bristol council can actually do, and we'll have time to think of creative campaign actions that we can take part in.
We appreciate that this time isn't the most family-friendly, but children are welcome. Alternatively, we will arrange an online version of this event for those who can't attend in-person.
This event is free and open to all. Please RSVP so that we can keep track of numbers.
