MI-CEMI General Member Convening: Budget Updates
Join MI-CEMI and coalition partners for a statewide conversation on Michigan’s FY2027 budget negotiations and what current proposals could mean for criminal justice reform efforts across the state.
If you care about expanding access to prison education, supporting successful reentry, ending excessive sentencing practices, or ensuring juvenile lifers have meaningful opportunities for release and resentencing, this budget process matters.

Right now, lawmakers are negotiating funding priorities that directly impact rehabilitation, prevention, reentry, and sentencing reform efforts. Some proposals currently under discussion include cuts to prison education programs, career readiness initiatives, community corrections, judicial infrastructure, and other systems connected to public safety and rehabilitation.
The discussion will feature perspectives from coalition organizations including:
- Michigan Collaborative to End Mass Incarceration (MI-CEMI)
- Safe & Just Michigan
- Humanity for Prisoners
- State Appellate Defender Office (SADO)
Together, these organizations work directly with impacted individuals, families, advocates, and communities across Michigan to advance evidence-based policies rooted in rehabilitation, fairness, and long-term public safety.
