CalPERS pension board meeting - Divest from Tesla!
Start: Tuesday, January 20, 2026•03:00 PM
End: Tuesday, January 20, 2026•05:30 PM
Location: CalPERS Headquarters (Lincoln Plaza North)• 400 P Street, Sacramento, CA 95811 US
California's public employee pension funds, CalPERS and CalSTRS, reported substantially more than $4 billion in holdings of Tesla stock combined (more than $2 billion each) as of their most recent reports.
Tesla’s financial instability, erratic leadership, and political volatility make continued investment increasingly risky.
As stewards of public retirement funds, CalPERS and CalSTRS also carry a moral responsibility to uphold the values of public service and democracy. Investing in a company that undermines labor rights and civil freedoms directly contradicts the mission of the public institutions we serve. Divesting from Tesla is both a financial imperative and a principled stand for the future we’re working so hard to build.
Tell CalPERS to sell TSLA, all of it, now!
Anyone can attend, observe, and speak, either in person or by watching the webcast and phoning in to 800-259-4105 during the public comment period. Every California taxpayer has a stake in the solvency of CalPERS.
Public comment to the CalPERS board is scheduled to start at approximately 3:45 p.m., but could be a earlier or later. Try to arrive by 3 p.m. if possible, and bring something to read while you wait!
Whether or not you can attend or phone in during the meeting, please send an email message to the members of the CalPERS and CalSTRS governing boards to ask them to sell TSLA, all of it, now.
At its September meeting, in response to our petition, the CalPERS board directed CalPERS investment staff to prepare a report on the valuation and risk of Tesla stock. That's a good first step toward a decision on divestment.
But neither the CalPERS staff report on Tesla nor consideration of action on continued investment or disinvestment from Tesla was on the agenda for the CalPERS Board meeting in November 2025 or this January 2026 meeting.
Tell the CalPERS board to put the report on Tesla that they directed their staff to prepare on the agenda of their next meeting for consideration and action!
It’s about a 20-minute (0.8 mile) walk to the CalPERS complex ("Lincoln Plaza") in downtown Sacramento from the Sacramento Amtrak station.
