The annual general meeting is a critical touchpoint for our union.

• Presentation of CAPE’s audited financial statements by our auditors
• Updates on the dues increase proposal and open bargaining
• Debate and discussion on resolutions presented by the Elections and Resolutions Committee (ERC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC)
• Presentations from executive committee by-election candidates

Keynote: Shanyn Elliott, Air Canada, CUPE Component

PHOTO Shanyn Elliott is a member organizer with the Air Canada component of CUPE. In August, she and her fellow flight attendants showed the country what it takes to stand up to a powerful employer and a federal government actively working to override workers’ rights. She’ll share insights from her experience, including how the flight attendants were able to build solidarity amongst their ranks and harness that power to stare down a strikebreaking attempt and get the employer back to the bargaining table.

Whether you participate in person or virtually, you can submit questions in advance through the registration form by November 12th.

During the Q&A periods CAPE will prioritize questions that were submitted in advance by the deadline and then will alternate between questions from members in the room, questions collected via the Q&A box in Zoom, and from online participants who have been sound tested with proper headsets. Questions submitted anonymously will not be considered.

>> ONLINE PARTICIPATION

Online participants will be able to ask questions verbally and through the Q&A function. Cellphones, earbuds, or wireless headsets are not approved for speaking due to the health and safety risks the sound can pose to the interpreters. It must be wired headsets with built-in microphone and wired USB connection or a table microphone.

Mandatory equipment: If you wish to speak during the AGM, please make sure to download our Online Interpreted Meetings Guidelines [PDF] which includes a list of approved headsets and microphones. If you do not have one, CAPE will reimburse your purchase of LOGITECH H111 (3.5 mm; not USB) upon submission of your receipt.

Adhering to this guideline reinforces our solidarity with the interpreters we represent and our to ensuring that all interpreters have the working conditions they need for safe and effective interpretation.  

Mandatory information: Online participants must be identified by their full name and local or department. Anonymous participation is not allowed as this is a members’ only event.

Mandatory early sound check: Online participants who want to ask their questions verbally will be required to log on 15-30 minutes early and do a sound check with the technicians.

CAPE, the technicians, and the interpreters reserve the right to cut off microphones or not interpret should the sound not be of adequate quality to protect the health and safety of interpreters. These members may submit their questions in the Q&A box instead.

>> Child-minding services

CAPE is pleased to offer child-minding services for members attending our AGM at the Delta Hotel.

Care will be provided by trained early childhood educators from Improv Care, who will create vibrant, engaging spaces filled with fun activities, interactive games, and healthy food, ensuring your children have a memorable and enjoyable experience throughout the AGM. If you’ll be bringing your future CAPE members, please indicate on the form by Friday, November 7th. We will follow up with more information.

This AGM has been designed to be accessible to all CAPE members in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. CAPE automatically provides common accessibility measures, including an accessible venue, online access, English and French audio interpretation, ASL and LSQ interpretation, and communication access real-time translation (CART) captioning.
