Join the Capital District DSA in reading and discussing the book Abolish Rent: How Tenants Can End the Housing Crisis written by founders of the Los Angeles Tenants Union, Tracy Rosenthal and Leonardo Vilchis.
Written for anyone fed up with the permanent housing crisis, complicit politicians, and real estate greed, Abolish Rent dissects our housing system from the perspective of those it immiserates. Through unsparing analysis and striking stories of resistance, it shows us how tenants can, through organizing and collective action, harness our power and win the housing we deserve.
The goals of this group are to learn from the readings and each other through collaborative, guided discussions and to build power to apply toward local tenant organizing.
We will meet biweekly 2 times in March (Thursday 3/13, Thursday 3/27) over Zoom and in-person at Albany Social Justice Center from 6-7:30pm EST. For the first session, we'll discuss the introduction and Chapters 1-3. While we hope you're able to do the reading before the meeting, we welcome all regardless of how much you're able to read. This group is open to the public.
