Moving in Unison: The surprising 90-year history of film & television choreographers and their unionization efforts

The entertainment industry is one of the most unionized industries in the United States, yet choreographers have been excluded from union coverage from the beginning, missing out on residuals, health and pension benefits, and many other protections negotiated by unions. Choreographers Guild was formed recently with the goal of unionizing choreographers, but how has this situation come to be over 90+ years of industry and guild history?

For the first time, we will tell the stories that have led us to this point. Only by learning our history can we be prepared to change the future.

All are welcome to attend.

Speakers:

Kate Fortmueller, Associate Professor of Film and Media History, School of Film, Media & Theatre, Georgia State University and co-editor of the new book Hollywood Unions.

Claire Elizabeth Ross, Adjunct Professor of Choreography for Camera, Pace University, @creditthecreator.
