CJTO's Socialist Summer School: The Tenant Class
Start: Saturday, August 31, 2024• 2:00 PM
End: Saturday, August 31, 2024• 4:00 PM
Join us for CJTO's Socialist Summer School, co-hosted with the York South-Weston Tenant Union!
Joining a long tradition of popular education around the world, we want to learn about radical futures so we can organize to build them. Socialist summer school will help us learn our history, develop better strategy, and connect our struggles to the bigger picture. Through reading, listening, and discussing, summer school will help guide and shape the action we take in our communities.
This summer, we'll be covering The Tenant Class by Ricardo Tranjan over 3 sessions.
- June 22nd, 2-4PM: Chapters 0-2 (The Housing Crisis That Isn’t; Tenants, A Social Class; Myths about the Tenant Class)
- July 20th, 2-4PM: Chapters 3-4 (But What about the Landlords?; A History of Struggle)
- August 31st, 2-4PM: Chapters 5-6 (Tenant Organizing Today; Pick a Side).
Come share your ideas and learn from each other in a non-judgmental environment! Summer school is open to everyone and engaging with the reading beforehand is encouraged but not mandatory - sessions will be highly interactive and participatory to learn concepts together.
Food and childcare (ages 4+ only) will be provided. Please specify the number of children, and any dietary restrictions, upon registration.
