Clergy press conference- election protection

Start: Tuesday, July 07, 202610:30 AM

Location: Corner of Lisbon and Ash St. beneath the mural corner of Lisbon and Ash st., Lewiston, ME 04240 US

In this moment when democracy is under attack, faith leaders across the country are organizing to raise our voices in defense of election integrity and the freedom to vote without fear or violence. We invite faith leaders from around Maine to join us on July 7th at 10:30am at the corner of Lisbon and Ash Sts. in Lewiston for a non-partisan press conference, one of 15 being held at the same time across the United States.

As our colleagues from "Faith in US" remind us, "Our faith traditions affirm the dignity, worth, and agency of all people. Patterns of action that prevent eligible voters from voting and that dilute voter’s power to choose their elected leaders violate our faith traditions’ affirmation of human dignity. "

This press conference will serve as public notice that the faith community is paying attention and is prepared to serve as not only moral witness but active partner in ensuring our elections remain secure and accessible.

Following the 10:30 am press conference, we invite you to join us at the Maine People's Alliance Lewiston office for lunch and conversation about election protection work that is already being organized and the specific and critical role faith leaders and communities of faith in this moment.

*in preparation, please consider adding your name to this clergy national sign-on letter!

This press conference is being organized by Multi-faith Justice Maine and the Maine Council of Churches, in partnership with Faith in US.
