Close 850 Bryant Now! is a campaign to close the seismically vulnerable jail at 850 Bryant St in San Francisco. The campaign has mobilized since July to pressure the City to swiftly close the jail. As a result, the City Board of Supervisors has called this public hearing to address the issue. Let's make our voices heard!
The campaign demands:
- the city begins to close the jail immediately without building new jails, transferring people to other jails in the area, or increased electronic monitoring
- the jail close by July 2020
- the city decriminalizes houselessness and quality of life charges
- the city reduces the number of people held pre-trial
- the city invests in housing, mental health care, and voluntary substance use treatment.
