Please join us for CO Climate Disaster Awareness Week - Jan. 26-30!
From wildfires and extreme heat to floods, drought, and skyrocketing insurance costs, climate disasters are no longer distant threats. Climate Disasters are happening here and now, to our families, our homes, and our communities.
From January 26–30, people across Colorado will come together for Climate Disasters Awareness Week to lift up real stories from those impacted by climate disasters and to demand bold, urgent action from our elected leaders. This week is about making the human cost of climate inaction impossible to ignore and turning our shared experiences into collective power.
We will close the week with a Press Conference at the Colorado State Capitol on Friday, January 30 at 11:00am, where impacted Coloradans and community leaders will stand together and urge legislators to pursue policies that protect our lives, our homes, and our future.
Our Goal is to educate the public and our leaders about the increasingly severe climate impacts happening around Colorado and the costs - to people's lives and financial impact.
Our plans:
1) All week: Photo and art exhibit in the Foyer of the State Capitol Building - Photos and artwork will show the climate disasters, extreme weather and other impacts to Coloradans around the state. We will have letter writing campaigns from legislators’ constituents urging them to go experience the exhibit and attend the Press Conference that will be held on Friday...
2) Jan. 30th, 11am - Press Conference in the Foyer of the Capitol (where the photo/art exhibit will be) to release a report from the Colorado Fiscal Institute (CFI) about Colorado Climate Damages and Adaptation Costs (from 1995->present->2050)
Hear stories of people impacted around the state by various climate impacts and disasters.
CFI will share details of their new report.
Legislators will be invited to share bills they plan to introduce to address these impacts and reduce climate pollution from burning fossil fuels.
3) All week: Traditional & Social Media Outreach to raise awareness about the serious climate impacts that Coloradans are already experiencing, primarily by sharing the stories of those being impacted. We are collecting stories from extreme weather survivors and others impacted to share through social and traditional media.
There are many ways to get involved:
