Community Defense Volunteer Training:
Accompaniment Team
When: Thursday, April 24, 2025 • 6:00 PM
Where: Hybrid Training. Please register to receive the Zoom link or the in-person address.
Please Note: Due to the sensitive nature of this training, an El Pueblo Unido team member will personally follow up with each registration to confirm participation. Our in-person training will be held at a trusted, private sanctuary space—not open to the public. ICE is not welcomed here.
What: As part of our Social Services Program, El Pueblo Unido will be training volunteers to provide accompaniment to immigrant community members during critical appointments. Whether it’s an ICE check-in, a school meeting, a doctor’s visit, or a court hearing, having someone stand beside you can make a powerful difference in how you’re treated and what happens next.
Volunteers will be trained on how to accompany people respectfully and effectively. In this hands-on training, we’ll walk you step-by-step through our accompaniment protocols, how to document what you observe, and what to do if you witness abuse or mistreatment. You’ll also learn how to coordinate logistics and how we match you with accompaniment requests from the community.
Who: El Pueblo Unido staff will be there to support you every step of the way. Being bilingual is a plus, but not required—we can pair you with a Spanish-speaking team member if needed. No legal experience is necessary—just your presence, your reliability, and your willingness to stand in solidarity when it matters most.
Additional Trainings: This Family Preparedness Team Training will be one of four volunteer opportunities offered through our Community Defense Project, a grassroots action plan to protect immigrant communities from hyper-enforcement by ICE (“la Migra”). Other teams will include the Know Your Rights Team which will lead essential educational outreach efforts; the Family Preparedness Team, which will help run our Power of Attorney Clinics; and the Rapid Response Team, which will help build and activate our ICE Watch network.
Your participation as a volunteer is essential to our resistance.
