Community Defense Volunteer Training:
Family Preparedness Team
When: Tuesday, April 22, 2025 • 6:00 PM
Where: Hybrid Training. Please register to receive the Zoom link or the in-person address.
Please Note: Due to the sensitive nature of this training, an El Pueblo Unido team member will personally follow up with each registration to confirm participation. Our in-person training will be held at a trusted, private sanctuary space—not open to the public. ICE is not welcomed here.
What: As part of our Legal Services Program, El Pueblo Unido will be training volunteers to support our Family Preparedness efforts through Power of Attorney Clinics. These clinics are designed to help immigrant families prepare for emergencies by legally naming someone they trust to care for children, handle finances, and manage critical responsibilities if they are detained or deported.
Volunteers will be trained to assist families with data entry, document preparation, and the intake process. In this hands-on training, we’ll walk you step-by-step through our clinic model and Power of Attorney templates. On clinic days, you’ll be paired with a translator if needed and supported by El Pueblo Unido staff. All final documents will be reviewed by an attorney and notarized on-site.
Who: El Pueblo Unido staff will be there to support you every step of the way. Being bilingual is a plus, but not required—we can pair you with a Spanish-speaking team member if needed. No legal experience is necessary—just your commitment to immigrant justice, attention to detail, and basic comfort using Google Docs or Microsoft Word.
Additional Trainings: This Family Preparedness Team Training will be one of four volunteer opportunities offered through our Community Defense Project, a grassroots action plan to protect immigrant communities from hyper-enforcement by ICE (“la Migra”). Other teams will include the Know Your Rights Team which will lead essential educational outreach efforts;, the Accompaniment Team, which will support community members during critical appointments; and the Rapid Response Team, which will help build and activate our ICE Watch network.
Your participation as a volunteer is essential to our resistance.
