Join us for a tax fairness training, lobby day and lunch on Thursday, March 26 at the Maine State House!
It’s crunch time in the legislature right now as our representatives in Augusta are making big decisions about which programs to fund, and which ones to leave behind. Most of us believe our state should be funding the things that are vital to our communities – like childcare, housing, and health care.
A majority of Mainers believe the best way to do that is by making sure that the wealthiest Mainers and profitable megacorporations that do business in Maine are paying their fair share.
And it’s true! When we tax the super-rich, close tax loopholes for individuals and corporations, and make our system fairer for everyone, there’s enough for all of us to have what we need.
Some people will try to convince us otherwise and will make all kinds of fake and divisive arguments against fair taxes – but guess what? They’re the people whose taxes would go up. And, coincidentally, they’re the same people who are cool with cutting programs most of us rely on, because they’re rich and they can pay for those things themselves.
That’s not how we run. Mainers take care of each other, and our legislators need us to tell them that so they don’t believe the hype from the other guys.
At 8:30 we'll start with some training: we'll learn about the policies, how to have good lobbying conversations, how to find our way around the state house complex, and who we need to talk to, and why. Then we'll seek out our legislators to persuade and gather intel.
We'll debrief at lunchtime (lunch provided) to share what we've learned.
