Detroit Climate Strike

The Climate Crisis is global, and it is local. We need 100% Solar and Wind Energy in 10 years to avoid the worst climate suffering. But DTE is asking our state regulator, the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to approve a plan for more dirty energy and rate hikes.

We can’t afford to let corporate interests control our energy future. DTE is building a $1-billion Gas Plant in St. Clair County, and planning for another one. They want us to pay back the cost over years – even when solar energy is far cheaper than gas, and when flooding caused by climate change is costing our communities.

We can’t afford to let corporate interests control our energy future. 7 percent of deaths in Wayne County are attributable to pollution associated with combustion of fossil fuels. We suffer from asthma attacks, cancer, and heart disease.

We can’t afford to let corporate interests control our energy future. More than one-third of Michiganders live in “energy poverty”. Attorney General Dana Nessel has said that DTE is unfairly burdening residential customers, while shareholders profit and industrial customers get discounts.

The answer? We need Democratically-controlled, Green, Affordable energy. We need solar panels on our homes, churches, mosques, and synagogues. We need a reliable and resilient energy grid, and good-paying jobs for the workers who build and maintain it. We need our neighbors to have heat all winter, regardless of their income.

Join us as we gather at Grand Circus Park & demand from DTE & the Michigan Public Service Commission: No more rate hikes! No more shut-offs! No more premiums for clean energy! Reject DTE’s plan and demand green, affordable energy for Michigan by 2030!
