Divest Lothian presents 'The Age of Innocence: No Future in Fossil Fuels'

Start: Saturday, August 26, 2023 3:00 PM

End: Saturday, August 26, 2023 4:00 PM

Did you know that Edinburgh, the host city of the world-famous international Edinburgh festivals, is investing in climate-wrecking fossil fuels through its council pension fund?

The Lothian Pension Fund, whose members include the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the City of Edinburgh Council, is investing an estimated £229 million in some of the world’s biggest polluters, including BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Norwegian oil giant, Equinor.

To find out how we can call on Edinburgh to become a fossil-free Festival City, please join Divest Lothian at 3pm on Saturday 26th August at the Edinburgh Greyfriars Charteris Centre for a climate-themed ‘No Future in Fossil Fuels’ workshop with fun songs to learn and the chance to star in a new adaptation of the romantic tale ‘The Age of Innocence’.

This timeless story will see a Pension Fund stuck in a love triangle between their fiancée Oil Company and their one true love, Green Investment. Who will the Pension Fund choose? We need your help to find out!

We're delighted to be joined by special guest, Jane Lewis, who has over 20 years' experience of leading inclusive radical singing workshops and in bringing song to a wide range of environmental, peace and human rights events including blockades, vigils and marches. We will learn a few simple harmony songs that can be sung at climate actions. Everyone is very welcome & no previous singing experience needed!

We're also running the workshop again in the same venue at 4.30pm on Saturday 26th August. You can sign up for the 4.30pm workshop here.
