Domestic Employer Organizing & Education: A Meeting of Bay Area Hand in Hand

Start: Saturday, September 09, 2017 2:00 PM

End: Saturday, September 09, 2017 5:00 PM

Are you feeling ready to do something proactive to support domestic workers in California?

If so, please join our next Hand in Hand general meeting where we will hear from the CA Domestic Workers Coalition about what domestic workers are facing in the current political climate.  We will then  plan our next efforts to educate many more nanny, housecleaner and homecare attendant employers about fair employment practices.

We will gather to:

  • Learn from our sisters in the CA Domestic Workers Coalition about what workers are facing

  • Plan education and outreach efforts to reach many more domestic employers

  • Hear about making dignified homecare for both attendants and seniors & people with disabilities a priority in the next Governor’s Race and other work this Fall

  • Share our own stories and deepen our understanding of intersectionality in the Domestic Worker movement

Logistics:  Snacks and attendant support provided.  Childcare provided upon request (let us know by September 5th if you will need it).

More Background: As a network of domestic employers and allies,  we at Hand in Hand have a critical role to play in supporting immigrant workers who face daily fears as a result of the current administration’s inhumane immigration policies.  Over the next year, we will continue to expand our Sanctuary Homes campaign and our education work to  improve working conditions for domestic workers across the state.  We are also planning an advocacy effort to address the affordability challenges facing seniors and people with disabilities who need homecare and don’t qualify for IHSS as part of a broader effort to bring dignity and recognition to the homecare industry.
