Southern California deserves a modern, green, and accessible rail system. In their new whitepaper, Electrolink, Californians for Electric Rail presents a vision for how to get there, through investments in electrification, level boarding, and through-running. These investments unlock new service patterns, get SoCal ready for high-speed rail, and make Metrolink, Surfliner, and Coaster competitive with driving. Electrolink makes a trip from Santa Clarita to LA under an hour, cuts 1/3 of the travel time on the San Bernardino Line, and makes the Coaster faster than driving, while offering new one-seat rides from Orange County to the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita. They also discuss reforms to project delivery and governance needed to smooth the path to modernize Southern California rail.
Panelists include:
- State Senator Catherine Blakespear, Chair, Senate Transportation Subcommittee on LOSSAN Rail Corridor Resiliency
- Ernesto Medrano, LA/OC Building & Construction Trades Council Executive Secretary
- Andrew Graves, Californians for Electric Rail
- Nolan Hicks, New York University's Transit Costs Project and Streetsblog NYC
