Doors at 7pm for a 7.45pm start
With oil and gas companies lobbying for drilling permissions at Rosebank and Jackdaw, Heathrow Airport pushing for a 3rd runway in London and car companies promoting ever larger SUVs, many local authorities across the UK and Europe are taking action to end the influence of major polluters. In September 2026, Bristol Council joined Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Florence and Hackney as the latest municipality to restrict advertising and sponsorship for high carbon products such as fossil fuels, airlines, ultra-fast fashion and non-electric cars.
Building on the successful campaigns to ban tobacco and junk food marketing, join our panel of experts to hear how residents, campaigners and policymakers can engage London councils and Transport for London to end the promotion of polluting products in our public spaces.
Speakers:
Carla Denyer MP is the Green MP for Bristol Central. As a councillor, Carla helped introduce a ban on junk food advertising on Bristol Council-owned billboards and screens back in 2021, and supported the recent expansion of that policy to include adverts for ultra-fast fashion, fossil fuels, SUVs and airlines.
Robert Barker is a councillor and former deputy mayor of The Hague in the Netherlands. The Hague was the first city in the world to legally ban high carbon advertising in public space and Robert was instrumental in accomplishing this.
Cllr Rachael Penny (confirmed) is a green councillor for St Giles Ward in Southwark and a member of Adblock South London - a campaign seeking to reduce the harms of corporate advertising in our neighbourhoods.
