Last
summer, the illegitimate fascist-packed Supreme Court revoked the
constitutional protection for the right to abortion. Overnight, women in
every part of this country were turned into second class citizens in
the eyes of the law. This is being felt most harshly by the millions of
women in the 14 states where abortion has been banned. But this
rendering of women as second class citizens is no less true in the
states where abortion is still legal. It is just that they haven't been
hit directly yet. But that could change soon...
Right
now, a Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas, Matthew Kacsmaryk, is
being asked to withdraw the Food and Drug Administration's approval for
mifepristone, one of the pills used in the medication abortion regimen.
This medication has been used safely and very effectively for decades.
If he does this, it could immediately ban abortion providers everywhere from prescribing mifepristone. Absent major public outcry, such a decision would likely be upheld by the Supreme Court.

Given
that medication abortions make up more than half of all abortions in
this country, such a ban would overwhelm abortion providers, creating
long waitlists for abortions. Even in states where abortion is still
legal, this would mean that thousands of women would be unable to get
the abortions they need and instead be forced to have a child against
their will.
Will
you accept a society where physicians are turned into an arm of the
state, forced to operationalize the anti-woman ideology of theocratic
judges by denying patients the medications and services they need?
Will
you silently adjust to another leap in the Christian fascist drive to
force women back into open patriarchal subordination to men by using the
state to force them to have children against their will?
Will you comfort yourself in this acquiescence with the misplaced hope that this assault will stop here? They won't!
Or will you resist?
As
we wrote in our founding statement [link], “The violent subjugation of
half of society must not be accommodated, excused, downplayed, or
surrendered to. IT MUST BE STOPPED!”

February 24 the day that all the final paperwork is due in the case
that will determine whether mifepristone stays available nationwide,
stage protests at courthouses and in public squares. Rise the Green
