Fighting Corporate Advertising in Leeds

Start: Tuesday, October 10, 2023 6:00 PM

End: Tuesday, October 10, 2023 8:00 PM

On the 10th of October, join us as we challenge corporate advertising.

Adblock Leeds are hosting an event where we will discuss the multiple issues of allowing corporate advertisements to take over our shared spaces, how we can fight back, and what a city without ads could look like.

The event is FREE and will start at 6pm, in the Leeds University Union building (Lifton Place LS2 9JS), in the Rep Room (level 2)

We will be joined by:
- Robbie Gillett, who will introduce Adfree Cities and tell us about what is wrong with corporate advertising
- Darren Cullen, the artist behind the Hell Bus who dissects greenwashing techniques through satire
- Pete Brooks, who will be previewing preliminary findings from upcoming Adfree Cities' research on the links between social deprivation and outdoor advertising in Leeds.

Attendance is free, and we will provide tea and cakes! Please register your place.

This event forms part of a tour taking the ‘Hell Bus’, a mobile exhibition with artwork dissecting greenwashing tactics, to university towns and cities across the UK, in collaboration with Switch It Green. Darren Cullen’s Hell Bus will be joining us as a public climate art exhibition to raise awareness around high carbon advertising and demonstrate positive, democratic, and creative use of city space. Come and see the Hell Bus outside the Leeds University Union building between 9th - 11th October 2023.
