Pittsburgh DSA is proud to host a special screening of The Alabama Solution, directed by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman. This documentary follows a six-year investigation to discover the reality behind the walls of one of the nation’s deadliest prison systems.

Special thanks to our co-hosts: Our Streets Collective, Bukit Bail Fund of Pittsburgh, Abolitionist Law Center, Let's Get Free, and the National Lawyers Guild of Pittsburgh!

Through unprecedented direct access and video shot on contraband cell phones, the filmmakers learn from the men inside about a suspicious and violent death. What follows is a story of brutality, corruption, and a system in collapse. As the men fight for their own survival, they embark on a campaign of resistance, against all odds.

We encourage anyone who has not been impacted by the criminal legal system to please bring a cold-weather donation for our neighbors outside. The poverty to incarceration pipeline in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County make our houseless peers exceptionally vulnerable to carceral system abuse.

Our Streets Collective is seeking the following for their weekly hot meal and resource distros outside of Allegheny County Jail (The deadliest jail in Pennsylvania):

  • “Men’s” and “Women’s” (Adult-sized) coats
  • Cold weather sleeping bags and blankets
  • Socks, especially long socks in larger sizes
  • Hand and toe warmers
  • Adult-sized hats and gloves
  • Candles of any kind

Items should be in new or like-new condition without tears, holes, or pet hair. If you’d like to donate larger items or large quantities of items that you can’t transport the day of the screening, please dm @Our_Streets_Collective to coordinate pickup.
