The cost of rent is a key factor in the current housing crisis – and yet in the UK landlordism is so dominant. So how can we begin to tackle the private rental sector? Recent Autonomy research, commissioned by JRF, found that being a private landlord has been one of the most lucrative and secure investments over the last decade. But what policy programme is best placed to improve life for renters while minimising detrimental side effects?
