Join us for a session with CHEJ’s new partner - Peoples Action Institute as their Lead Climate Justice Organizer Ben Ishibashi provides a historical look at how we arrived at where are today in the current “political moment” in time. All communities face many challenges, but these problems did not start with the election of Donald Trump. The problems started well before he was elected. And his election didn’t come out of nowhere. It was the natural outcome of the changes that have been taking place over the last forty years. Those changes have resulted from a deliberate plan by the wealthiest people in this country to reshape our economy and society in their interests. This presentation looks at how corporate power has influenced politicians and government decision makers and how People’s Action addresses this reality in its everyday work.
Guest Speaker: Ben Ishibashi
Ben coordinates PAI’s National Climate Justice Strategy with a focus on energy democracy, winning just transition policies and fighting for racially just implementation of US domestic climate policy. He works with PAI affiliate leaders and staff to create and implement base building, leadership development and narrative campaign strategies. Ben also coaches and mentors affiliate staff organizers and coordinates targeted days of action to advance PAI’s National Climate Planet and People First Campaign. He also assists in policy research development and political education work with affiliate member-leaders. Ben has been with People’s Action since 2015. Prior to that, he was a community canvasser for Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment. He is a graduate of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.
