On Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 5:45 PM, the Lawrence City Commission will hold its first public meeting about Fusus, the quarter-million-dollar police surveillance platform buried in the City’s $3.17 million contract with Axon.
The City has said it’s “just traffic cameras.” But the contract, obtained only through open records requests, shows much more:
📹 up to 500 camera feeds
🤖 AI analytics already configured on 100 streams
📲 integration tools that could include Ring doorbells
🔗 sharing with outside agencies, including federal
No policies. No public debate. No consent.
We’re demanding:
✅ Put Fusus on the agenda (you got this done!)
⬜ Action to pause the platform
⬜ Oversight on surveillance tech
We need a packed room to make sure commissioners know the community is watching.
