Today’s tax code reflects biased assumptions about family structures, marriage, participation in the paid workforce, and more that disadvantage women, children, people of color, and families with low incomes. We know that there is a need for systemic investments in things like universal child care, accessible health care, and paid leave that improve outcomes for women and children, and we know that tax justice efforts are essential for securing these wins for our families, advancing gender and racial equity, and supporting an economy that works for all of us.
