Start: 2024-11-13 20:00:00 UTC Greenwich Mean Time : Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London (GMT+00:00)

Social media platforms can bring connectivity, knowledge, and the power to share thoughts and ideas instantly. But in the hands of big tech social media can be addictive, toxic and dangerous. There is a growing base of evidence linking a rise in youth anxiety, depression and suicide to social media use. Digital monopolies with almost no transparency or accountability work to extract our data and keep us hooked on their products by using addictive algorithms which push harmful content. These corporate conglomerates keep us under surveillance, give Twitter trolls free rein and fail to protect our children. Increasingly social media is harming people’s mental health - especially young people's.
We’ll discuss the types of demands we can make of big tech and how we can organise collectively to win them. Join us on the 13th November and hear from survivors, experts, and activists like:
- Lisa Dittmer, Researcher, Amnesty Tech.
- Adele Zeynep Walton, author of Logging Off: The Human Cost of Our Digital World.
- Catherine Reader, Behind Our Screens.
- Grace Ansell, Just Treatment Patient Leader.
