Join us (and others across the globe) on April 19th for the Fridays for Future Global Climate Strike: Tell NYS that we need ethical investments; the NYS Common Retirement Fund should not come at the expense of today's youth!

Part of our demands for the 2023-2024 school year have been asking Comptroller DiNapoli to fully divest the NYS Common Retirement Fund from fossil fuels. As of last year, the NYS Common Retirement Fund still held nearly $5 billion in fossil fuel investments, including $500 million in Exxon Mobil. The time for incrementalism has long since passed, and the comfortable retirement of NYS employees should not fuel climate catastrophe at home or across the globe.

We must End Fossil Fuels and DiNapoli must Divest NYS' Common Retirement Fund from Fossil Fuel Interests.

DiNapoli has also recently put another $20 million into Israeli bonds, bringing NYS' pension fund to more than $267 million invested in Israel. This is a grossly unethical way to invest the hard-earned retirement funds of NYS employees. Relating to FFF's mission of climate justice, Israel's invasion of Gaza (in addition to violating human rights and international law) has released massive amounts of greenhouse gasses. Additionally, their blockade of Gaza and environmental apartheid policies have destroyed food sovereignty, and wetlands and created an environment of undrinkable water. Israel has also systematically removed native trees and replaced them with wild-fire prone European pine, and has awarded gas exploration licenses for the further development of natural gas in the Gaza Marine.

DiNapoli must Divest NYS' Common Retirement Fund Completely From Israeli Bonds.

If you cannot make this event but want to support, use our email tool to reach out to the Comptroller's Office directly.

From 4PM-5PM, we will host a rally, featuring speakers from Jewish Voice for Peace Albany, Extinction Rebellion Capital Region, the Palestinian Taskforce, and local colleges, as well as chant and launch our postcard campaign.

From 5PM-6PM, we will dance, chalk, and build networks between peace and environmental advocacy groups.

FFF will have free t-shirts and stickers ready for attendees. Some signs and banners will be provided, but feel free to bring your own!
