Albany Lobby Day - Speed Dating Flyer
You’re Cordially Invited to Global Peer Support Day: Advocacy Speed Dating

This isn’t your average policy meeting—it’s Advocacy Speed Dating! Imagine elected officials and their staff rotating through tables like a matchmaking mixer, but instead of romantic sparks, they’ll encounter powerful stories from volunteers whose lives have been shaped by HIV, homelessness, drug use, systemic racism, and trauma.

Each conversation is a chance to connect, educate, and inspire action. Volunteers will share firsthand how proposed federal budget cuts threaten the very services that help them survive and thrive. These are not just statistics—they’re lived realities. And they deserve to be heard.

Why Lived Experience Matters?

People with lived experience are the experts. Their stories reveal the human impact of policy decisions and offer insight that no spreadsheet or data can capture. When those most affected speak directly to those in power, change becomes not just possible—but personal.

What to Expect
  • Speed Dating for Change: Quick, meaningful exchanges between volunteers and officials to spark understanding and accountability.
  • Policy & Funding Updates: Hear directly from stakeholders about what’s at risk and what’s being done.
  • Food, Drinks & Community Vibes: Because advocacy is better with snacks and solidarity.
Instructions for Housing Works Staff + Partnering Organizations

Your role is essential in making this event a success. We ask that you:
  • Attend the Event: Your presence shows solidarity and strengthens our collective voice.
  • Identify and Invite Clients: Many of your clients and program participants have powerful stories to tell. They are directly impacted by the proposed federal cuts and deserve a platform to speak.
  • Support Participation: Help clients prepare to share their experiences in the speed dating format. Offer encouragement, guidance, and logistical support to ensure they feel confident and safe
  • Amplify Their Voices: These stories are the foundation of our advocacy. By helping clients participate, you’re helping shape the future of funding, services, and dignity.

We cannot afford to return to the silence and suffering of the early AIDS epidemic. We must act now to protect the services that allow people with lived experience to live full, dignified lives.

Spread the word. Bring your story. Let’s make some policy matches
