Ambassador Freeman will share his insights into US foreign policy and the complexities of US diplomacy. Since the US Global War on Terror began in 2001, an estimated 4.5-4.7 million people in the Middle East have been killed and 37 million displaced. The depravity of US politics and foreign policy has seeded disillusionment and animosity, both domestically and internationally. Where is there potential for peace and freedom from tyranny? How much bloodshed, destruction, and terror is the US willing to tolerate to achieve its objectives? What is on the horizon for the people of the Levant?

Ambassador Freeman has had a distinguished career as US diplomat, serving the US foreign Service for over three decades. He’s been in many roles, most notably as the Principal Interpreter during Nixon’s visit to China in 1972 and as US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia (1989-92). His experience extends across the Middle East, Africa, East Asia, and Europe, as he’s negotiated on behalf of the US with over 100 foreign governments. He is recently retired from his position as a visiting scholar at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. He’s written several books such as America’s Continuing Misadventures in the Middle East and Arts of Power: Statecraft and Diplomacy.
