Hallam Citizens’ Climate Manifesto | A Green Industrial Strategy
Start: Tuesday, August 17, 2021• 5:30 PM • Greenwich Mean Time : Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London (GMT+00:00)
This is a virtual event
So far we have used our Hallam Climate Manifesto assemblies to discuss a number of different issues, from transforming our transport system to greening our energy production. At our next event we will hear about and discuss how an ambitious Green Industrial Strategy can enable the transition we need, whilst protecting and creating thousands of good, secure, unionised jobs.
During the pandemic, the economy contracted by 25% after over a decade in which it stagnated and living standards declined, while precarity, zero-hours contracts and the use of food bank soared. An ambitious green industrial strategy which will deliver social and economic justice for all should be central to our response to the present crisis, and the after-effects of the last – investing in the green industry, technology and expertise we need to deliver a net-zero economy and the good, secure, unionised jobs of the future.
On Tuesday 17th August, between 5:30pm and 7pm we will discuss what an ambitious Green Industrial Strategy looks like, the holes in the Government’s current strategy, what we can do ahead of COP26 to push this further up the agenda, and what we can do in Hallam to ensure our city’s transition is led by workers and trade unions.
We will be joined by two exciting speakers:
- Miriam Brett, Director of Research & Advocacy at Common Wealth, to talk about their blueprint for a Green New Deal for workers.
- Sian Errington, from Unite the Union, to talk about the Union's work campaigning for a green industrial revolution.
