Please join me for our second to last Hallam Climate Manifesto assembly ahead of COP26 to discuss the extremely important issue of nature and biodiversity. The assembly will be held on Tuesday 14th September and we will be joined by wildlife TV presenter & conservationist, Chris Packham, and other exciting campaigners from across the movement.

The climate crisis and the nature emergency are inextricably linked—climate change is driving environmental degradation, and the loss of wildlife and green spaces makes it harder for us to reduce carbon emissions.

Earlier this year the UK ranked worst in G7 for losing wildlife and wild spaces. More than one in 10 of the UK’s wildlife species are threatened with extinction and last week we heard 40 percent of British tree species are at risk of loss.

Despite this since 2012, public spending on biodiversity has declined by 29%, nationally, 39% of sites of specific scientific interest are in a “favourable” condition” and the government is still refusing to set its species abundance and biodiversity targets ahead of the Autumn climate talks.

On the 14th September between 5:30 and 7pm please join me and residents across Hallam to come together (on Zoom) to discuss what steps we want to see in Sheffield and across the country to restore our natural environment for people and planet, and what we can do to make it happen. There will be short talks by conservationist Chris Packham and Head of Land in England for RSPB, Michael Copleston and an opportunity for a Q&A, before breaking out into group discussions. I will also be talking about my work as Shadow Minister for Nature.
