Australia has just experienced a wave of civil disobedience by Extinction Rebellion, although catastrophic flooding has caused protests to be postponed in Sydney and Brisbane (climate chaos anyone!?)

We all know that the disruption of nonviolent protest is minuscule compared with the disruption of natural disasters. We are in the midst of climate breakdown, and we have no time left to lose. In order to protect our loved ones, and all life, we must act with courage and participate in Mass Civil Disobedience to force the system to change.

This is the year that, together, we change the story. And - if it hasn't already started - it starts here, and it starts now.

Each of us has a vital and valued part to play. We need to step up to mobilise everywhere – to get others involved. We need to organise our media – getting in the press and social media to get the word out there. We need to organise our mass actions – helping with nonviolence training, getting everyone to the right place at the right time, and providing all the support.

This is an emergency like no other. We are in no doubt about this anymore. Everything is at stake. Come to this gathering because life is never going to be the same again. We all know it, let's act upon it.

We pay our respects to elders past and present and honour Australia's First Nations centuries-long battles to protect Country.
