Housing For All At Land Use and Transportation
Start: Monday, November 27, 2023•02:30 PM
Somehow, Constraints Reduction is still at Land Use and Transportation, despite the fact we railed for this legislation on the steps of City Hall in June. Still, we need to keep up support for a big piece of Housing For All from Mayor Breed, Supervisor Engardio, and Supervisor Dorsey. The Land Use and Transportation Committee (Chair Melgar, President Peskin, and Supervisor Preston) are hearing this critical bill for the 4th (5th? time at 1:30 pm in Room 250 at City Hall. We expect it will be heard around 2:30 pm
We already know our opponents will show up in force to say no to housing, which makes it all the more crucial for us to be there to say “Yes”! This legislation will:
Improve the process to build housing by greatly reducing Conditional Use Authorizations, public hearings and neighborhood notifications for most new housing
Make it easier to build subsidized affordable housing
Make the rules uniform and in compliance with state law
Authorize senior housing, homeless shelters, and group housing throughout San Francisco
You can read the full executive summary here.
All told, it will reduce timelines and actually enact much of what we already agreed to do as a city in the Housing Element adopted at the beginning of 2023. This legislation is absolutely essential as we work to build 82,000 new homes by 2031.
